The free preview contains the first 38 pages of the game, which includes the rules, character creation, and more. Perfect if you want to get a head start on playing the game now, or you just want to read up on the cool ways we use degrading dice and playing cards for actions and your exosuit powers.
Updated Cover Art
Those who signed up for the campaign earlier in the year may not have noticed that we commissioned a new cover by Galen Pejeau! The new illustration shows the Fracture Observatory, overlooking the massive fracture that is splitting open the Earth.
A New Creature Appears
The Substratum Protocol comes with a small bestiary. It includes a rapid lookup table along with longer descriptions, we call Field Notes. The goal of the bestiary is to provide hooks and interesting creatures for players and the GM to discover and build details for collaboratively. Many creatures have explicit dangers, while others contain hints to powers or abilities.Â
Regardless of their descriptions, we always encourage players to add their own ideas about the creatures based upon the themes of their game and what sector the creature is discovered in.
Name: Geobear
Rapid Description: Mineral colony. Slow. Strong.
Field Notes: A large, lumbering creature created from colonies of minerals and microorganisms taking on a bear shape, the Geobear is slow moving, incredibly strong, and endlessly patient. As they grow, they develop additional legs to carry their incredible weight. Recently discovered stylized drawings of Geobears have been interpreted as symbols of the constant flow of time.
